Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 Now In Production

Samsung has commenced mass production of its next-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, at its manufacturing facilities in Vietnam. The production launch in early May 2025 signals the company’s commitment to maintaining its leadership in the foldable device segment, with a planned market release in July 2025.

The production timeline aligns with Samsung Display’s earlier initiation of OLED panel manufacturing in April, focusing on enhanced durability and reduced screen creasing – crucial improvements for foldable devices. These developments maintain Samsung’s traditional release schedule for its Z series devices, which historically launch during summer months.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is very likely going to be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset that powers the entire Galaxy S25 series. Meanwhile the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s choice of processor is still up for debate. Exynos test variants of the Flip 7 have been spotted but some reports claim that Samsung has not been able to get the Exynos 2500 ready in time. If that is the case then the Flip 7 will probably also be powered by a Snapdragon chipset.

In terms of imaging capabilities, Samsung has equipped the Z Fold 7 with a substantial camera upgrade, implementing a 200MP main sensor to replace the Z Fold 6’s 50MP system. The device also benefits from enhanced durability features, including a slimmer 4.5mm profile when unfolded and improved resistance to water and dust.

The Z Flip 7 maintains its distinctive clamshell design whilst potentially introducing new colour variants. Notably, Samsung plans to expand the Flip line with a Fan Edition (FE) model, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2025, potentially addressing market accessibility concerns.

Despite these advancements, Samsung has adjusted its production targets for 2025, reducing output by 39% compared to 2024. The revised strategy aims for approximately 5 million units, down from the previous year’s 8.2 million, reflecting a measured response to current market dynamics in the premium foldable segment.

Samsung’s launch strategy appears carefully orchestrated, with the flagship Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 models expected to debut at a July Unpacked event. The company has integrated enhanced cooling systems and improved haptics to optimise sustained performance, with leaked benchmarks indicating impressive multi-core scores approaching 10,000, surpassing the Z Fold 6’s 6,367.

Industry analysts emphasise that while these technological improvements are significant, particularly in bringing foldable devices closer to traditional flagship capabilities, the sector still faces challenges regarding durability and pricing before achieving widespread consumer adoption.
