Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Review and Buying Guide

We can all agree that we love when our favourite gadget makers listen and implement feedback. We have all been excited since Samsung announced a folding phone and the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

With the new flagship technology, It is safe to say Samsung is back and better to lead the folding phone’s market with the new Samsung galaxy Z Flip 3.

Design

The Samsung galaxy flip Z 3 is powered by a flagship processor, the Snapdragon 888, coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage space with a baseline version starting at 128GB, and it runs on Android 11- based OneU.

When closed, the phone measures up to  3.4 x 2.8 x 0.63-0.67 inches and when opened up, the phone measures 6.5 x 2.8 x 0.27 inches.

The Samsung galaxy Z flip 3 comes with an unremovable pre-applied screen protector, and the folding display and the inside screen has the same size and aspect ratio of 120 hertz, which makes it super smooth, and you can still turn it down to 60 hertz.

The back has Gorilla Glass Victus on the back with the fingerprint reader on the power button. Its sides are a bit flatter, so it feels pretty sleek in your hands, the new hinge is improved and the Samsung galaxy flip z 3 is now IPX8 water-resistant, so you do not have to worry about getting your drink spilt on your phone, but it is still not dust-resistant so you still have to keep an eye out for grit and stuff that might get into the hinge. Also, the Samsung galaxy Z flip 3 comes with an unremovable pre-applied screen protector.

Performance

However, the Samsung Galaxy Z flip 3 does not have the Samsung desk feature that you can use with any Samsung phone or tablet. I guess they took it out to make things fit to prevent things like overheating. One of the perks of the Samsung flip 3 being foldable is you can prop up the camera like a tripod to record videos or take group pictures either with a selfie lens or rear camera. You can prop it up and set the flashlight like a table lamp when there is a power outage.

A significant setback is that the aspect ratio for the selfie mode is rotated by 90 degrees, which would always crop out most of the top and bottom parts of your pictures.

I doubt if the Samsung galaxy flip 3 would be the best choice for anyone who might find the whole opening and closing of the phone inconvenient.

However, if you are going to leave your Samsung galaxy flip3 open, you have to be careful because it can be prone to scratches.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy flip 3 is water-resistant but not dust resistant for little pecks of sand that can find their way onto your screen and scratch it.

Battery life

The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy flip 3 is really short, especially if you are going to be travelling or using your phone heavily.

Features

One of the most exciting features of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is that it is a folding phone that is super cool and rare, so it would be a good talking point and conversation starter if you are meeting new friends because of its rarity.

The cover display is now bigger and better, going from the tiny 1.1-inch screen to a 1.9-inch cover screen, making a huge difference. You can now swipe over to different widgets, and quick actions like music controls, alarms, timers are way more functional and comfortable to use.

You can manage multiple notifications at once and dismiss individual notifications or calls. You can use the camera viewfinder for dual primary lenses or add or remove widgets for the fun parts. Even better, you can switch up your style by adding more colour or even animations to the cover display of the Samsung galaxy flip Z 3 from just outside your phone.

Pros

  • Having a phone that opens and closes can be very good for your productivity because you would not get easily distracted by all the notifications that pop up because you know it would be a hassle to open your phone to respond to every notification.
  • It is also very user friendly.

Cons

  • The battery life is really short.
  • The Samsung Galaxy Z flip 3 is not a choice for anyone who finds flip phones inconvenient.
  • It can be prone to scratches if left open.

Buying guide

Since the Samsung galaxy flip Z 3 is not dust-resistant, you have to be extremely careful with dust, woods or particles of sand getting in the way of the hinge and potentially scratching the screen.
