What is the Difference Between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus?

Whenever Samsung releases a new phone, nobody’s surprised that it’s most likely the best android Smartphone or even the best phone in the world anymore. That’s not up for debate anymore, but you know what’s up for debate? It’s the difference between their main line Samsung Galaxy “S” products.

It’s easy to see the difference between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but you know what’s hard to spot? It’s the difference between the S22 and the S22 plus, and that’s what we plan on doing in this article, we need to find the differences, if any, between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 plus.

What are the Main Differences Between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+?

With the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the S22+, there are several differences, but they are not major ones; they are all very slight differences because they both have the same build quality and materials, the same screen, the same cameras, the same processors, and the same amount of RAM and Storage space.

So, then where are the differences between the two phones, or are Samsung selling us the same phone and just adding a plus to it and hoping no one would notice?

There are a few glaring differences and those are in the phone size, battery capacity, peek brightness, Wi-Fi connection, and total charging output.

  • Phone Size; The Samsung Galaxy S22 has a max size of 6.1” while the S22 is 6.6”, which is a big difference. Although it is a slight drop in size from the S21, which was 6.2”. However, it is because of that difference in size that we can have a bigger battery in the S22+.
  • Battery Capacity; The battery on the S22 is a respectable 3700mph, while the S22 has a superb 4500mph battery and that’s all thanks to it being the bigger phone. Although, both batteries are smaller than last year’s models, as the Samsung Galaxy S21 had a 4000mph battery while the 21+ had a 4800mph battery. This year’s models have a more efficient chipset, so they can manage the battery life on each phone a lot better.
  • Peak Brightness; The S22 has a peak brightness of 1300nits while the S22 + has a peak brightness of 1750nits, just like the S22 ultra.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity; The S22 uses Wi-Fi 6 while the S22 plus uses Wi-Fi 6E VWB, just like the S22 ultra.
  • Charging output; The S22 charges with a max power voltage of 25watts, so even if you have a 50watt charging brick, it will only use 25watts to charge it. The S22 plus uses 45watts to charge, which is way faster than the S22.

What are the Main Similarities Between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the S22 Plus?

Both phones share a lot of the same features like;

  • Camera; Both phones have the same three-camera setup, with a 12mp ultra-wide, a 50mp primary camera, a 10mp telephoto that supports up to 3x zoom, and a 10mp selfie camera. They both support up to 8K video capturing at 24fps, and they can also shoot videos at 4k 60fps.
  • Display; They both have flat displays, infinity hole cut out, and Amoled Dynamic Panel.
  • Processors; All phones on the Samsung S22 lineup have the same processors, although they may differ depending on your region. So, in the US, they have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and in the UK, it’s the Samsung Exynos 2200.
  • Network; All the phones run on 5G and 4G, and they all support 3G networks
  • RAM & Storage; Both Phones have 8GB of RAM and 128GB and 256GB of storage space.

What are the Main Differences in Terms of Design?

Both phones have the same design language and are made of the same materials. They both have the same three camera modules with a camera bump. They both have a very nice aluminium frame, and now they no longer have a plastic back. They are all Gorilla Glass Victus bodies which are always nice to see.

Although, they do have a slight difference in their sizes as the Samsung Galaxy S22 is 6.1 inches and the S22+ is 6.6 inches. Funny enough, they are both one inch smaller than the previous generation.

Speaking of screen size, they also have the same flat displays with the infinity hole punched out for the selfie camera, and they still have the same dynamic Amoled panel and they are both FHD 120hz displays, so I can’t see too many differences between both phones.

What are the Main Differences in Terms of Performance?

In terms of performance, there is basically no difference between the two phones. They both have the same processors, they also have the same amount of RAM and storage and they both have the same variable refresh rates at 48-120Hz which means there is barely any difference in performance.

The only difference you may find in them is that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus has a bigger battery and will last longer but aside from that, there is no difference in their raw performance. However, the Samsung Galaxy S22 does have the higher max brightness, so if you leave both at max brightness, the S22+ may die faster than the S22.

What are the Main Differences in Terms of Features?

In terms of Features, both phones are very similar; they both have the same camera features like director’s mode and portrait mode, and they also have the same adaptive refresh rates, so it’s hard to discern any clear differences in features between them.

The only main difference between the two of them is the “S” pen support because the S22+ can support the Samsung’s “S” pen, but the S22 can. So in terms of features, I think there really isn’t a difference between the two.

What are the Main Benefits of Having One Over the Other?

I think the main benefits you are getting with the S22+ are the battery power, charging capabilities, and screen size but aside from those things, I can’t see too much of a difference between the two, but the difference in the battery is something to think about.

How Does the Pricing of the S22 & the S22+ Compare?

In terms of pricing the S22 is $200 cheaper than the S22+, with the S22 costing about $800 for the 128GB model and the 256 models costing about $1000 and the S22+ costing about 1000 for the 128GB model and the 256GB model costing about $1200.

Although both phones don’t come with chargers so, for a 25w charger, you will have to pay another $20 for it, and if you want a 45-50w charger, then you have to pay about $40-$50 for it.

Which Phone Offers Better Value for Money, the S22 or the S22+?

I think the S22 offers better value for money because it’s cheaper, and both phones can essentially do the same thing, but the other is just bigger and has a better battery. Although the better battery is still a big difference, but the S22 can easily give you a full day’s use, so it is still pretty good.

Conclusion

Samsung’s motto is “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” They have a formula that works, and it is absolutely working for them right now. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are two phones that are so similar yet so different that there is value to be had in both phones. At this point, Samsung is only interested in your tastes and preferences because they have a phone for everyone.

If you want a sleek, compact phone that can do a lot yet be discreet, then the Samsung Galaxy S22 might be a better choice. But if you want a bigger screen and a bigger battery but don’t want all the niche or enthusiast features on the Ultra, then the S22 Plus is likely your best option. It’s all about what you want and what you can afford, and that’s what Samsung is all about: ‘freedom.'”
