Apple Airpods pro Review – Is the Earbuds Worth the Price?

In this Apple Airpods pro review, we’ll be discussing the features and improvements of the new Apple Airpod pro bags. Apple launched the updated AirPods Pro earphones in October 2019. It is a wireless high-end version of the existing Airpods, featuring noise-cancelling functionality, a new unique design, improved water resistance, and a higher price tag of $249.

Apple Airpods pro design

The Apple AirPods Pro has a glossy white design with what Apple calls an “innovative vent system”, it equalizes pressure within the ear to minimize discomfort. It is a new class of refined in-ear headphones with a customizable fit that forms an exceptional seal for background noise cancellation that lets you feel your music, not your headphones.

The Apple AirPods Pro has a similar design with the original AirPods, but the Airpods pro is wider in front to accommodate the silicone tip for comfort, noise cancellation and proper fit. The flexible silicone tip comes in three different sizes to fit the contour of individual ears for effective noise cancellation.

AirPods Pro measure 21.8mm wide and 30.9mm in length which is wider but shorter than the original Airpods. It also comes with a bigger wireless charging Case that measures 60.6mm in width, 45.2mm in length, and 21.7mm in thickness.

 Performance and Battery life

Apple uses a 10-core H1 chip which makes connecting your Airpods pro to your phone quite easy and also allows you to share music between two pairs of Airpods so far they both have the H1 or W1 chip. The H1 chip powers Noise Cancellation, Adaptive EQ, and also supports “Hey Siri” requests.

It has an IPX4 sweat and water-resistant rating. It doesn’t mean you can submerge it in water but it is safe from splashes and the IPX4 rating does not apply to the case so do not get it wet. Apple has added a new Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos feature to Apple Music, which allows AirPods Pro owners to listen to Spatial Audio tracks designed to provide an immersive sound/audio experience.

The Airpods pro has both outward-facing and inward-facing microphones. The outward-facing microphone detects external sound and cancels it before you can hear it, the inward-facing microphone also listens to sounds inside your ears and eliminates it with anti-noise just like the outward-facing microphone. This noise cancellation process is continuous so you’re fully in tune to your calls and music.

The Adaptive EQ feature automatically tunes the music to the shape of your ear or position of your head so that you can enjoy superior sound quality during calls or while listening to music. The earpieces sense when you place them in your ear or take them out, and will automatically play or pause music but if you don’t like this feature, you can disable it by turning off Automatic Ear Detection in your Bluetooth settings.

For starters, control is pretty straightforward. Press one of the Airpods once to play or pause music, press once to answer an incoming call, press and hold to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode, double-tap to go to the next track, and triple-tap to skip backwards. It also has thin strips on the front of the stems that you can lightly press for switching between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes.

Apple Airpods pro comes with ‎3 Lithium-ion batteries estimated to last an average of 5 hours per charge when active noise cancellation is disabled, 4hrs30minutes with active noise cancellation enabled and 3hrs30minutes of talk time.

The wireless charging case provides additional 24 hours of battery life for listening time and 18 hours of talk time. Placing your Airpods pro in the wireless charging case for 5 minutes provides around 1 hour of listening time or 1 hour of talk time.

The Wireless Charging Case can be charged using Qi-certified charger or the fast charging Lightning port included in the box.
