Features

The Huawei P50 Pro, like the older model, does not support Google services and instead uses Huawei’s proprietary package. It is IP68 rated against water and dust.

The curvy, elegant glass design with a metal frame. The unique element of the design of the Huawei P50 Pro is the camera bump, which is divided into two symmetrical circles. It is very slim, and it weighs less than 200 grams. It is very easy to hold in one hand.

The display of the  Huawei P50 Pro features a 6.6-inch OLED screen that curves gently around the edges, with a resolution of 2700 x 1228 pixels. This provides supremely crisp images and bright, vivid colours. The unlock features of the  Huawei P50 Pro are the fingerprint sensor and face unlock.

The audio uses a stereo speaker, which is an upgrade from the P40 pro that provides clear, super loud sounds. There is a bigger headphone jack that supports a Bluetooth connection.

The storage options of the Huawei P50 Pro are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. It is expandable using the Huawei nano memory card.

The battery lasts very long, and it supports fast charging.

Performance

The Huawei P50 Pro uses a high-end chipset, the Snapdragon 88 chipset, paired with Adreno 660 graphics. You can get it in either 4g, 8GB or 12GB RAM. The UI and heavy games run great because of the strong chipset.

The thermals are pretty normal, they might experience some throttle after very heavy use, but it is something you can live with, as it is not really serious.

The Huawei P50 Pro does not have a 5g modem, so the connectivity is limited to 4g networks.

The interface of the Huawei P50 Pro is Huawei’s emotion UI 12, which is actually based on Android 11. The overall layout is familiar to android users, except that here you get a separate control panel for various settings, accessed by swiping down from the top right corner.

Camera.

Camera

The Huawei P50 Pro has a dual matrix back camera system, headed up by a 50 MP true chrome camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) built in, which is complemented by a 40 MP true chroma camera, which is a monochrome shooter. It has features like a 13-megapixel ultrawide and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.5x times optical zoom. You can zoom up to 100x if you pinch in.

The front camera of the Huawei P50 Pro is a 13-megapixel cam which has autofocus and can capture a wide field of view in the native wide-angle mode. There is no latency on the focus, which makes it look real.

The photos are very detailed and sharp. The 0.8x toggle is a crop from the wide-angle photo. There is the 1x toggle, which is just a bigger crop.

The night mode helps with the colour reproduction of images taken at night, and even without the night mode, the camera is still incredible at night, regardless.

Videos are up to 4k with all cameras on the  Huawei P50 Pro, and electronic stabilization is always on. It takes 4k at 30 Fps.

Battery Life

The battery of the  Huawei P50 Pro is shy of 4400mAH. It is clearly the likes of a MiUi 12, super energy efficient, as the snapdragon 888 chipsets. There is nothing extraordinary about the battery; it lasts as long as the average battery of any other flagship device.

It supports 66 watts of wired charging and 50-watt wireless charging. It charges more than 60% in half an hour.

Overall Verdict

The  Huawei P50 Pro is a very capable device that performs a lot of functions that other flagship devices of its calibre perform. It is very good for gaming and other activities like watching videos and internet browsing. It has a high refresh rate and an overall outstanding performance.  It has other interesting qualities, like an excellent camera, and is IP68-rated water and dust-resistant.

If you are a fan of waterproof flagship mobile devices and can leave without the likes of Google services, the  Huawei P50 Pro is one to consider.
